Details:
This year as part of the Winter Readings and Conferences Course, the OHSU graduate students are hosting a “professional book club” that introduces a variety of concepts of “Social Responsibility”. The group plans to read 3 books and will host 3 late afternoon/early evening discussion sessions on each book.

The three sessions are scheduled for 5:30-7:30 pm in Gaines Hall Room 47 on January 20th, February 17th and March 17th.

In January, to introduce the concept of social responsibility, we will read, “Enrique’s Journey” by Sonia Nazario. We will use this non-fiction narrative to illustrate the impact of current-day poverty on food insecurity, hunger, family structure, and immigration patterns. This is especially relevant as our 3 second year students will travel with me to eastern Honduras—to regions with high rates of maternal, infant, and child malnutrition this spring.
