Licensure Update 2009
August 5, 2009
Much discussion ensued on the ODA list serv as a result of the August 4th Oregonian article regarding our State Licensure Board:
Your ODA Board is alert to the importance of this issue, and is working to develop an action plan. Part of our plan includes communicating with the membership, so that we are all informed and can speak with one strong voice for licensure and our profession.
To help keep you up-to-date on where this issue stands, we’ve created this new website section. You can link to FAQ and to resources & weblinks.
The page will be updated as new information is available.

Monica Hunsberger, PhD, MPH, RD, LD wrote a letter to the Oregonian that has been accepted for publication on 8/8. See the content of the letter below. You can respond and post comments on the Oregonian website.
I am writing to dispel myths and express my concern over the proposed elimination of the Oregon State Board of Examiners of Licensed Dietitians. First, there would be no cost savings. The Oregon State Board of Examiners of Licensed Dietitians costs are supported by the 500+ licensed dietitians that pay a fee for licensure. Second, it is important to dietitians that they be licensed in order to bill for services. Third, the board protects consumers and has successfully prosecuted a person falsely practicing as a licensed dietitian. It is important that we keep functional boards that protect the public intact. The mission of the Oregon State Board of Examiners of Licensed Dietitians is to protect the public's health, safety and well being by regulating licensed dietetic practice. In addition, a meeting is scheduled with the Governor's Office on October 2nd. Until then, the ODA Board asks that you NOT contact your legislator.
Thanks!
